When we started the season, we, the co-head coaches (Chatt and myself), did not know what to expect. I for one have never coached nor did I ever play softball!!!!! (I may ramble for a few lines but to understand what this team has accomplished you will need some backstory).
Over the past 3 softball seasons Becky has played on a team that she is usually one of its youngest members. This year the team split and some moved up to 12 and under but we left Becky in 10 and under.
This year's team ended up having 12 players (7 that had played together for 2+ years and 5 that have never played before).
Our record is 4 wins, 6 losses and 3 ties!!!! Not real impressive but two of our ties were against the team that won 1st place and all of our losses were at home -- the wins and ties were all away games!!!!
We ended the season last Monday (6/22) against Itasca with a tie (or so we thought). Because of the tie, we were tied for second with Itasca and they had one game left against Whitney which they should have won but lost. This caused us to still be tied. We were told the prior week that in the case of a tie the number of runs you score during the season is the tiebreaker which we were ahead of Itasca by 12 runs. So we would move on -- but not so fast!!!! Itasca felt that since they beat us twice then there should be a playoff game. Well Itasca go their wish!!!
This past Friday nite with their starting second (Becky) and third baseman as well as their first and third (Shana) base coaches in Galveston. Chatt was able to assemble the rest of the team in one day to play a game at 7pm in Hillsboro.
Needless to say the ones in Galveston were worried about the outcome but we did not need to worry because we won 9 to 1!!!!!
Which means we are going to play in the District tournament in Ennis July 6th through the 9th.
Below are a few pictures from the season and I will keep you posted on our progress:
